Year six pupil Finn Bennett has recently taken an interest in politics, and after reading an article about how boys perform in school, Finn sent a letter to Lincoln MP Karl McCartney.

When Finn received a letter from The House of Commons, he said: “I felt surprised and excited, I was so happy to get a response.”

Karl McCartney visited the school on Monday, and met with Finn and his classmates to discuss the subject of boys performance in school.

Mr McCartney explained that he started a debate in the House of Commons last September about how statistics show boys do not do as well as girls in school.

He said: “With a debate in the Commons you can normally involve five or six other MPs, but this particular topic gained the involvement of 23 MPs from different political parties.”

Pupils enjoyed a question and answer session with Mr McCartney, who said afterwards: “What a lovely varied selection of questions, that went very well indeed.”

A spokesman from the school said: “Finn’s fantastic achievement has provided an amazing opportunity for the pupils at Caythorpe Primary School.
