Both vacant seats that were up for grabs in two by-elections were held onto by the Tories, which means they retain their overall majority.

The victory means they now hold 17 seats, with the Boston Independents Group on five, other independents six, and Labour two.

Martin Howard was victorious in Skirbeck, where there was a relatively low turnout compared to that for the national poll of 36.89%.

He polled 955 votes, with Jacqueline Barton of the Labour Party next closest on 437.

Also standing were independent Don Jenkins, Christopher Moore of the Blue Revolution Party, Sue Ransome as an independent, and Jason Stevenson for the Liberal Democrats.

In Kirton and Frampton David Brown was voted in with 2,038. The two other candidates were Independent Lorraine O’Connor who polled 453 votes and Liberal Democrat Alan Taylor who polled 415.

The turnout in this ward was 56.5%.

The by-elections were needed after the resignation of Conservative councillors Alistair Arundel and Shaun Blackman in October.
