Could Louth face more than 1,000 new homes?

The proposed 1,162 new 
homes would be built over a 15-year period, and are primarily divided between 
11 main sites in the town.

Three of these sites have been earmarked for more than 200 homes - including 311 homes on land rear of Chestnut Drive, 
240 homes on land off Grimsby Road, and 240 homes on land to the north 
of Legbourne Road.

A further 129 homes would be built on land off Brackenborough Road, and 89 homes would 
be built to the south of Legbourne Road.

Meanwhile, large developments have been proposed for neighbouring areas such as Alford (161), 
Holton le Clay (326), Marshchapel (64),
North Thoresby (150), 
Tetford (50) and Tetney (57).

Smaller housing plots have been earmarked for local villages such as Binbrook (39), Grainthorpe (18), Legbourne (20), and 
Manby-Grimoldby (27).

The neighbouring town of Horncastle is set to escape with no additional homes under the draft Local Plan, as there are more than 700 homes already being considered- with a further 500 in contention if the controversial Crowders application is submitted.

However, Woodhall Spa is in line for 341 new 
homes, and Coningsby-Tattershall is earmarked 
for a further 357 new homes.

Coastal communities such as Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea escape without any additional housing under the draft Local Plan, 
as a policy of “housing restraint” is in place due to the potential flood risk.

The coastal strip will therefore be limited to “existing commitments”, which refers to the 1,281 proposed homes for the coast which 
have already been granted outline or full planning permission.
