For a third successive year the council has participated in the initiative as around 1,000 Commonwealth Flags were raised in locations throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and Commonwealth countries.

As a collective public expression of commitment, it enables participants to show appreciation for the values the Commonwealth upholds, and the opportunities offered for friendship and co-operation with fellow Commonwealth young and old citizens around the world.

Council chairman Coun Gill Odgen read out an affirmation of these values, along with William Alvey pupils Amelia Botto, Erin Clifford and Elliott Jackson from Year 5, and Jake Barnshaw of Year 6.
