'A tremendous privilege and honour' - Teacher, playwright, and music fan voted in as the latest Mayor of Boston

A teacher with more than 40 years’ experience, an accomplished playwright, and a blues and rock music fan has been voted in as the latest Mayor of Boston.

Coun Jonathan Noble took on the role at Boston Borough Council’s annual meeting yesterday (Monday, May 18), becoming the 491st person to hold the title.

Coun Noble has served as a borough councillor for a total of nine years, first from May 2015 to May 2023, then returning in May of last year. He has previously held the position of portfolio holder for finance.

“It is a tremendous privilege and honour to become the Mayor of Boston,” he said. “The town has a glorious history and I’m sure will have a prosperous future.”

Born in Leeds, Coun Noble has lived in the Boston area since 1979.

A graduate in politics, has been a teacher for more than four decades. Of these, he has spent 27 years teaching history, including serving as head of history at three different Lincolnshire secondary schools. For the past 20 years, he has also taught music, specialising in guitar and bass.

Beyond the classroom, Coun Noble is an accomplished writer, having scripted numerous historical plays, mainly for the Lincolnshire Regency Society, for which he serves as chairman. The society performs in period costume, celebrating history through character performances and traditional country dancing.

He also enjoys writing pop songs and has a keen interest in music, particularly blues and rock artists.
