Local people have seen youths damaging property, setting off fireworks, using drugs and leaving excessive amounts of litter behind them.

One dog walker who lives near the site told The Standard he often came across evidence of drug-taking and other anti-social behaviour, even finding discarded underwear on occasions.

North Kesteven District Council’s anti-social behaviour team and the police are taking action to tackle the issue.

Executive member for community safety, Coun Sally Tarry said: “Members of the public have told us that because of the behaviour of some younger people in the Woodside area they have stopped using the play area.

“This is a facility that should be available to and respected by everyone. This is not acceptable and the damage also comes at a cost to local taxpayers and homeowners whose property has been damaged.”

The police and the anti-social behaviour team are working together to tackle the issue and parents will be notified about their children’s behaviour.

“During school breaks and the run up to bonfire night all parents are being asked to ensure they are fully aware of where their children are and to ensure they are behaving appropriately and safely. Parents are also being asked to speak to their children about the impact that this type of behaviour can have on local residents and encourage them to act considerately and respect their surroundings,” said Coun Tarry.

The park is managed by Sleaford Town Council and clerk Lisa Tidy said: “Prior to half term we had a report of vandalism to a bench at Woodside and this was removed.

Sleaford Town Council continue to work together with NKDC and the police to address issues of anti-social behaviour around Sleaford.”
