As HM The Queen said in her address to the nation on Sunday, the vast majority of people need to be thanked for their diligence in keeping to these rules. The many queues of shoppers standing patiently in well spaced out queues [the regulation 2m – 6ft – 2 adult arms length apart] outside the shops and supermarkets are testament to this.

Inevitably, in these uncertain times, as retailers and others understand more about this nasty virus, new regulations and procedures are being introduced to help keep us safe.

Sometimes these regulations can be upsetting especially, when we are not expecting them, like the one way system around the aisles that has been introduced in the nation’s supermarkets recently.

In such circumstances, our frustrations overspill towards the assistants, supervisors etc. Please hold back your reactions as the assistants/officials are doing their job and following procedures designed to keep us all safe.

Some pointers to help clear up common misconceptions. • People should stay 2m (6ft) apart. This includes inside shops. Where there are taped guide markings on the ground please keep to them.

• ‘Family’ groups and groups of people who live together can be closer – especially when children are out and about with their parents/guardians/regular carers.

• Visiting the homes of families and friends is not allowed under the regulations. Barbecues, parties etc. will have to wait until more normal times.

• The Government has stopped all gatherings of more than two people, except for groups of people who live together, are require to meet for work purposes or to fulfil legal obligations.

• Volunteers are permitted to visit people’s property for the purposes of delivering shopping, medicines and other medical equipment, food parcels and also to check that residents are alright. Unless it’s an extreme circumstance, the volunteers should stay at a distance outside the person’s home.

• Parks are open for exercising [walking, running, cycling] but not the playground equipment. This includes the skate park apparatus.

Remember, by staying at home and apart, and listening to and abiding by instructions – the sooner the virus will stop spreading and a more normal way of life will return.

Keeping to the regulations is crucial!

Easter ‘Cross’ in The Market Place.

Sadly it has been decided not to erect ‘The Cross’ in the Market Place this Easter.

It takes a gang of four to both put it up and take it down. As the four need to be closer than 2m, the churches and town council agreed they should set an example, abide by government regulations, and not put up the cross.
