Coun Richard Wright said that with rising infections and transmission continuing to pose a great risk to individuals and to the capacity of the NHS, it is essential that we embrace the heightened restrictions moving in to the New Year.

He said: “I accept that this is a source of great disappointment for many, not least those businesses and sectors forced once more to close, but equally I hope that we can all see that through full compliance with the Tier 4 guidance it is an essential measure given the situation at this time.

“The new vaccine and ongoing rollout bring increased hope at the turn of the year, but equally it’s important not to become complacent and let things slip as there is still a long way ahead.”

Coun Wright said: “We must not ignore the increasing pressure on hospitals and always bear in mind that with around one in three people who have the virus not displaying symptoms, it is essential to continue with the hands, face, space guidelines. And if you develop any symptoms, no matter how mild, it is critical that you self-isolate and get tested.

“As well as the shops and businesses told to close again, I realise that this is another blow to the hospitality and leisure industry that have done so well to adapt to Tier 3 conditions and assure them that as soon as we have the information on further business support mechanisms we will share this.”

Going forward into 2021, he said they will do everything they can to support the most vulnerable residents.

“I thank you for all that you have done in recent times to protect yourself, your communities and those around you, and wish you well for the New Year. Stay safe, stay well and stay connected,” he said.

* In light of North Kesteven now being placed within Tier 4 restrictions, the District Council will be looking to roll out a further package of Government-funded financial support for those small businesses who are legally ordered to close.

Details of which businesses are eligible for the support grant and how they apply, will be published by the District Council shortly.

Businesses are advised to monitor the council’s BusinessNK website from next week for further details.

If your business has been ordered to close or remain closed due to the Tier 4 restrictions from December 31, 2020 and you have already received a Closed Business Support Grant for the period of National Lockdown in November, the council says it will be in touch with you directly to verify your eligibility for a Tier 4 grant and to process payments – early in January 2021.
