UPDATED: Wheely tyred of flytipping? Council officials have to clear up 48 used tyres dumped along country lane

It appears that a garage or tyre fitting business may have been having a clear out recently, after 48 used tyres - some still with their size labels on - were found tossed along the grass verge of a country lane near Sleaford.

The 48 tyres were discovered on Monday morning strewn along Gorse Lane at Silk Willoughby, as if they had been tossed out of a truck or van as it rolled along.

A North Kesteven District Council environmental services team has been to clear up and dispose of the flytipping and officials have asked: “Know any garage that has had a clear out recently?”

The tyres are generally used, but with a degree of legal tread on the, as if from a part worn tyre sales business.

An NKDC spokesman commented: “Given the quantity of tyres and the spread of them along about 400m of verge, we suspect they were thrown out of a moving van or truck, most probably from the nearside of a transit style van heading away from Silk Willoughby.

“They look to be part-worn tyres bearing the codes and markings you’d expect to see in a garage or tyre-fitters. They were dumped on Sunday night into Monday, November 30. We suspect they’re from a commercial operation that might have gone bust or had a clear out, and hope that someone might know of someone who’s aware of large scale co-ordinated operation.

“We’d appreciate any information that can assist us in resolving this audacious and gratuitous environmental crime that’s going to cost taxpayers hundreds of pounds in clearance disposal and investigation costs. Are you as tyre-d of flytipping as we are?”
