Councillor resignation sparks by-election in Navenby

Lincolnshire Independent district councillor Laura Conway has resigned due to work commitments.

Nominations open on Thursday, September 8 for a by-election within the Cliff Villages Ward of North Kesteven District Council following the resignation of Coun Conway.

After winning the seat in 2011 and defending it last year, Coun Conway, a Lincolnshire Independent, has today (Tuesday) stepped down from the council due to work commitments.

Very positive about the council and the work of its officers and fellow members, she said it had been a great pleasure to serve the people of her community over the past five years.

Council Chief Executive Ian Fytche thanked her for her ‘substantial contribution to North Kesteven’ and wished her every success for the future.

“She has been a very committed and enthusiastic member with a great eye for detail and thorough examination of issues that affected all residents. She was a very passionate and effective Ward Member and always showed great support for local people on key issues,” he said.

In addition to her community involvement locally, Coun Conway served on the Planning sub-committee, Overview and Scrutiny and Member Development panels and had been a Navenby Parish Councillor.

The ward is served by two members, with Coun Marianne Overton continuing her period of service.

The resignation sparks an election process, which is provisionally scheduled for Harmston, Coleby, Navenby, Wellingore, Welbourn and Leadenham on Thursday, October 13.

The period for nominations to be made is between Thursday, September 8 and 4pm on Friday, September 16. If the election is contested candidate names will be posted locally and on the council website on Monday, September 19, the same date as poll cards are issued.

Last date for new registrations to vote is Tuesday, September 27; with postal vote applications due by 5pm on Wednesday, September 28 and proxy applications by 5pm on Wednesday, October 5.
