ELDC consultation on new order to help coastal businesses

A Local Development Order identifies an area for the development of specified uses and types, and removes the need for the submission of a planning application.

The consultation on the proposed Local Development Order for the coast takes place this month, and it would allow holiday parks and seasonal accommodation, for a two-year period, to open all year round for holiday occupancy instead of being limited from March 15 to October 31, effectively extending the holiday season.

The Order would also permit certain types of ancillary development and alterations in existing parks.

ELDC’s portfolio holder for the coastal economy, Councillor Steve Kirk said: “The economy of the coastal zone very largely depends upon the holiday parks and so their recovery is vital to ensure an economic recovery from the pandemic.

“It is hoped that by extending the season for the holiday parks, the impact will be felt along the wider coast, having a positive effect on the local businesses in what would usually be quieter months.”
