Former Mayor of Sleaford resigns

He explained his main reason for stepping down is he has been offered a seat on the Board of Trustees with the Robert Carre Trust requiring him to avoid any conflicts of interest.

He said: “Although I will remain associated with several local schools, I am excited at the prospect of a new voluntary position that may allow me to play an even fuller part in the future of education in Sleaford, which in turn could well contribute to extra capacity and facilities for the anticipated increase in the town’s student population.

“My most fervent wish for the future is that the story around Sleaford Town Council will always be what the council is doing for the town and never again the workings of the council itself.”

The vacancy has now been advertised inviting residents to request a by-election to find a replacement if necessary. Residents have 14 days from the date of posting the vacancy (May 22) to call an election.

This comes after recent unrelated resignations by Councillors Mark Allan and Richard Willis leading to a by-election being called in the Quarrington Ward and an invitation to co-opt a new councillor for Mareham Ward
