Gritters all ready to respond to cold snap

Despite a relatively mild winter so far, North Lincolnshire Council is preparing to respond to harsh conditions when they arrive.

The council response will be with a salting programme based on giving priority to certain routes and when snow falls giving major routes top priority.

More than 700km of roads are salted by the Council’s Highways Department in North Lincolnshire – 51 per cent of the total network, which is higher than the national average.

The Council urges that in bad weather residents ask themselves if their journey is really necessary, give themselves extra time for the journey, slow down and take extra care.

If motorists get into trouble, especially in snow, they should stay with their vehicle until help arrives.

Residents are asked to make sure their vehicles are properly prepared by always carrying warm clothing and suitable footwear in the vehicle, keeping screen washer bottles full and making sure windows are clean, as well as carrying spare water on long journeys.

Lights should be checked and kept clean and batteries should be fully charged.
