Join the campaign to save our services

The Standard is teaming up with other newspapers across Lincolnshire to try to save services at Boston Pilgrim Hospital.

We are calling for United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust to pledge to maintain the current level of service in Boston - including A&E and maternity.

Anything less than that would be unacceptable to the people of Lincolnshire - especially given the massive increase in numbers using the Pilgrim in recent years which appears to support a case for expansion rather than a reduction in service.

It’s clear that cost cutting measures are being explored but we want a ‘red line’ drawn when it comes to staff and services at the Pilgrim.

Recent inspection reports have said our staff do a good job but that there simply aren’t enough of them. Recruitment drives have been needed to address the issues at our hospital – to reverse that progress with cuts now would be perverse.

It’s time NHS bosses were open and honest about the scale of what they are considering.

This is a serious matter and the people of the county should not be kept out of the loop. Councillors are beginning to debate the prospect of cuts but a drip feed of information is not good enough.
