Local election 2021: Rasen Mayor wins county council seat

It has been a big week for Rasen resident Stephen Bunney.

Already a member of Market Rasen Town Council, and a District Councillor, on Wednesday he was elected as Town Mayor and today he has won the County Council seat for Market Rasen Wolds.

Coun Bunney spoke to the Rasen Mail briefly after the result was announced.

He said: “I am delighted with the result and thank all the people who supported me.

“As County Councillor, I pledge to support them and everyone in the Market Rasen Wolds area.”

The election was a close-run thing, requiring two recounts.

The result was:

Stephen Bunney (Liberal Democrats) - 1480 votes (Elected)

Tracey Coulson (Conservative) - 1466 votes

Colin Saywell (Labour Party) - 294 votes.

Fellow town councillor Tom Smith has been elected County Councillor for the North Wolds Division.

The result was:

Thomas Smith (Conservatives) - 1686 votes (Elected)

Louise Reece (Liberal Democrats) - 720 votes

Brian Green (Labour Party) - 419 votes
