Lorries exporting Boston's heritage

The Fenland Folk lorries, as they are known, carry designs which pay tribute to such significant people from the area’s past as the Pilgrim Fathers and navigator and cartographer Matthew Flinders.

The designs were commissioned by local arts organisation Transported and Pinchbeck haulage firm Freshlinc, which operates the lorries, and created by Lincoln’s Electric Egg.

They were unveiled at an event at Springfields Event and Conference Centre, in Spalding last Tuesday; through Freshlinc drivers, they will find an audience across Europe.

Also being revealed on the day was a sculpture entitled Chimes, which is permanently installed in Springfields Festival Gardens. Created by Ben Coode Adams, this was originally commissioned by artsNK and Lincolnshire County Council and later by Transported and Springfields Horticultural Society. This is also inspired by characters from South Lincolnshire.

Nick Jones, programme director for Transported, said: “Transported’s aim is to reach the people from Boston Borough and South Holland who don’t normally engage with the arts. This can be about finding a way of making it relevant and what both these amazing projects have in common is they celebrate an aspect of what is special about the area, the people.”
