MP visits primary school to talk with pupils about bereavement and phone bans

Local MP Victoria Atkins visited a village primary school near Spilsby after receiving a sack load of letters from pupils asking her to drop in.

The MP for Louth & Horncastle constituency made a bee-line for Halton Holegate C of E Primary School to follow up on the correspondence.

Speaking about the day, Ms Atkins said: “I was very impressed to receive some really well written letters from students at Halton Holegate C of E Primary just before Christmas about funding for Lincolnshire Centre for Grief and Loss, as well as an invitation from the school to visit.

“It was a real privilege to be shown around the school by two wonderful young students, Ruby and Robin, as well as to sit down with some of the years 5 and 6 students. As well as discussing the issues of their letters and taking questions about the role of an MP, I was pleased to have the chance to discuss with young people the proposals to restrict access to social media for under 16s.”

She said the students were very keen to contribute their thoughts and opinions about the ban, which her Conservative Leader of the Opposition Kemi Badenoch has been pushing on.

"As well as whether we should ban access, I was pleased to get some excellent suggestions about how this ban could be managed,” said Ms Atkins.
