Councillor Bill Aron has taken over from Grantham councillor Ray Wootten as chairman.

Coun Aron represents the Horncastle and and Tetford division and lives in Horncastle, where he has also run a family retail business for the last 40 years. As such, a focus in his year as chairman is to help small businesses get off the ground.

He was elected to the county council in June 2009, and had previously served as a county councillor between 2001 and 2005. He is also currently a town councillor for Horncastle and has been a district councillor in the past.

Cllr Aron said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed Chairman of Lincolnshire County Council and intend to carry on the good work that Coun Wootten has achieved over the last 12 months.

“I’m looking forward to promoting tourism throughout Lincolnshire and am keen to see the development of more business hubs around the county, similar to the Horncastle Business Centre.

“These give small businesses the chance to try out new technology and equipment without having to commit to spending large sums of money first.

“I’m also looking forward to working closely with Coun William Webb, as the new vice chairman, in the coming year.”

Coun Aron has been involved in helping with fund-raising for several local groups, is a member of The Open Spaces Society and chairs a number of community committees, notably the Stanhope Hall and the Horncastle War Memorial Centre.

He has chosen to support LIVES, and will be raising money for the charity throughout the year.
