New signs being installed at fly-tipping hot spots in North Kesteven are warning would-be dumpers that, if caught, they are more likely to be hauled before the courts than anywhere else in the county.

The message says: ‘Warning. People have been successfully prosecuted for fly-tipping in this area’ in locations where illegal litterers have been caught.

The aim is to deter people as part of the council’s tough stance on fly-tipping which has resulted in the most prosecutions by any council in Lincolnshire in recent years.

More than 80 per cent of all fly-tipping prosecutions in the county in the last three years have been carried out by NKDC. Figures show the council pursued 34 cases through the courts; collectively all six other authorities took only 11 cases forward.

Coun Richard Wright, Executive Board member, said flytipping costs taxpayers money for investigation and removal: “The message is simple: we will not tolerate fly-tipping and will carry out robust investigations and prosecutions against the perpetrators.”
