Red and green men at Lincolnshire’s pedestrian crossings to be replaced with Imps

Lincolnshire County Council has revealed radical new plans to change the red and green man signs at every pedestrian crossing in the county to red and green Imps.

Council leaders believe the project will not only set Lincolnshire apart from neighbouring county’s and enhance its position as a tourist destination, but could improve road safety.

A spokesman for the council said: “The red man does not shout stop to a young child whereas a red imp would most certainly make them think twice about stepping out into the road.”

In a further development the familiar pedestrian crossing beep will be replaced with the tolling of Lincoln Cathedrals bells to herald the oncoming stop of traffic.

The final decision will be made at a forthcoming Lincolnshire County Council meeting.
