Sleaford and North Hykeham’s MP reflects on 2025 and year ahead

A Christmas and New Year message from the MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham, Dr Caroline Johnson.

I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2026.

I have had the immense privilege of serving our communities as the MP for nine years now, and I am honoured and grateful to represent our part of Lincolnshire in Parliament.

2025 has been a challenging year for many, and I am proud to have been able to support many constituents throughout the year with individual casework, and by holding the Government to account.

I have worked throughout the year to highlight urgent concerns, whether that be the impact of the Government’s NIC tax hike on crucial charities like our Air Ambulance, the funding issues facing Lincolnshire Police, the dreadful family farm tax, or increased taxation on hospitality.

Reflecting on the year, together we have achieved a lot in Sleaford and North Hykeham, and whist it would be impossible to capture everything in this short reflection, I have outlined some highlights below.

I am delighted that, having surveyed my constituents and worked closely with them, EMR have this year launched a new and improved timetable of services with a range of benefits for my constituents.

Having secured money from government for it, I welcomed that the North Hykeham Relief Road legal orders have now been formally approved.

I was pleased to support Sir William Robertson Academy in convincing the Minister to expedite their school rebuild.

And finally, towards the end of this year, the Unduly Lenient Scheme referral to the Court of Appeal resulted in Natasha Allarakhia receiving an extended sentence for her heinous actions. While no sentence will ever bring the boys back or repair the injuries caused, I welcomed the Court’s decision to extend the sentence.

I had a great time with the hardworking volunteers of Metheringham Swimming Pool who, this year, celebrated the pool’s 50th anniversary.

I was honoured to join Charlie White, chair of the Bomber County Gateway Trust, to see the installation of ‘On Freedom’s Wings’ in Norton Disney.

As we head into 2026, I hope that common sense will prevail, but fear that Ed Miliband will make an irreversible and destructive mark on our county’s landscape and character by sacrificing our agricultural land for large scale solar farms. I will continue to fight for our food security and best farmland to be protected.
