Mr McCartney and fellow political leaders from Lincolnshire have signed a letter urging the County’s electors to Vote Leave in the EU Referendum on June 23.

Yesterday he kicked off a Greater Lincolnshire Vote Leave Grand Tour to visit 14 different towns and locations in the county, starting from Lincoln, due to arrive in Sleaford after 5pm. Mr McCartney said; “The signatories on this letter not only highlight the strength and depth of feeling in our county that we should Vote to Leave the European Union, it also shows that those holding this view are from a very wide range of political parties. It is a very broad church indeed.”

However, while on his way from Scunthorpe to Grantham to meet up with fellow campaigners, his VW Camper Van ‘battle bus’ was struck on the windscreem by a stray rock flicked up by a passing lorry.

The occupants, including the Lincoln MP, were showered with fragments of glass, receiving minor cuts as they ground to a halt.

Mr McCartney said afterwards: “The screen shattered right across. I got cuts to my arm and fragments showered the young lady in the passenger seat.

“Hopefully we will be able to get back on the road as it has been going well.”

Fellow campaigners carried on to the remaining venues and Leader of the County Council, Coun Martin Hill, spoke to The Sleaford Standard in Sleaford.
