New play equipment, a multi-use games area and a BMX track are all in Market Rasen Town Council’s masterplan for Mill Road Playing Field.

The park as been earmarked for redevelopment and more leisure facilities for many years, but now the town council has two definite options for the land and artists impressions of what the new leisure facilities will look like when complete, which it is hope will be by the end of next year.

Now councillors are asking residents in Market Rasen which of the two schemes they want to see go ahead. Both plans feature a multi-use games area (MUGA) which will be a fenced off, hard court area which can be used to play basketball, hockey and football.

A new children’s play area also features in both plans. But while option one has a BMX track and jumps built into it, option two features outdoor gym and sports equipment, which can be used by all ages for fitness by using their own body weight as resistance.

The existing skate park at the top of Mill Road Playing Filed will be left as it is whichever plan gets the green light.

Coun Margaret Lakin Whitworth has been pushing for the land to be redeveloped for years.

She said: “We could have looked at repairing the play equipment that is already there, but it is 50 years old and is out of date.

“It would probably cost as much to repair it as it will to replace it with modern facilities.

“We have some of the money for the project and once this consultation is complete ad we know what the public wants we can look at getting grants for the rest of it.”

The town council started its public consultation on the Mill Road park yesterday at the market where the plans were on display.

Residents can also take part in the consultation by collecting a questionnaire from the town council offices at The Old Police Station during its opening hours
every Monday, Tuesday and Friday between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
