Members thanked Mr Odlin, who is moving to the coast, for his “sterling service” to the appeal and branch.

The position is now open for anyone who might like to take it on.

One of Mr Odlin’s final duties was to hand over a donation for the Poppy Appeal for £25 - the proceeds of a talk given by Mr Denis Chandler.

In the past, Mr Odlin has also helped to clean the war graves in the cemetery.

Members considered a letter from the Commonwealth War Grave Commission regarding the upkeep and cost of doing this work in 13,000 locations.

The Commission pays Spilsby Town Council £30 a year to maintain the war graves and members agreed this should continue.

Future fundraisers being organised by the Legion include an annual sausage and mash supper. Members are considering holding it on St George’s Day, Saturday April 23, at the Masonic Hall if it is available. More details will be announced later.

The date of the next meeting at the Nelson Butt Inn will be Wednesday, February 17.
