Mr Madden said he was proud of Worksop people for generously donating more than £120,000 to the appeal since 2005.

He said: “It’s a figure to be proud of for such a small town.”

“I would like to thank all the dedicated volunteers who have stood by me - some of whom were helping my predecessor Dennis Kennedy.”

“Without their help I would not have been able to do the Poppy Appeal.”

Mr Madden will be continuing his role as Standard Bearer and chairman for Worksop’s Royal British Legion, but said the branch is desperately looking for new members in order to keep the organisation going.

“You don’t have to have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces to be a member. The county fundraiser and I are also looking for someone to be able to take over as Poppy Appeal organiser for the area.”

Anyone who wishes to join the Royal British Legion or who thinks they could manage the Poppy Appeal should contact Brian Madden on 01909 731160 or Bob Privett on 01476 594333 or 07920 786364.
