The branch closed in November 2011 when the subpostmaster resigned and the premises were withdrawn for Post Office use.

Since then Post Office Ltd has been actively working in the area to find an alternative way of providing its services to customers.

Bosses are now wanting to establish a hosted outreach service at The Memorial Hall, on High Street.

The service will be provided on Monday from 2-5.30pm and Wednesday 9am-12.30pm and offer the same range of products and services.

Post Office spokesman Mike Ball said: “Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services in the longer term and establishing this Hosted service presents the best possible solution and will allow us to restore access to Post Office services to customers in Elkesley.”

During the public consultation the Post Office welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like it to consider before a final decision is taken on this proposal.

The consultation period closes on 11th April. Submissions can be made during the consultation by post to FREEPOST PO Consultation, by emailing [email protected] or by calling the customer helpline on 08457 22 33 44 or textphone on 08457 22 33 55.
