Pothole woes set to continue

Rotherham Council has said plans to repair the pothole ravaged A57 will not be made until later this year - despite motorists’ safety concerns.

The stretch of the A57 between the Todwick crossroads and Lindrick Golf Club has been branded ‘a joke’ by one motorist.

Richard Trendell was so alarmed by the state of the road he wrote to the council with his concerns.

“This is a major route and the road is becoming a joke,” he said.

“It seems although Rotherham Council accept this is a major road by investing on improvements towards the M1, it is not willing to continue to keep the road in a reasonable standard closer to Worksop.”

Local resident Jonathan Mangham agreed, adding: “I’m getting sick of zig zagging. It’s costing motorists money and sooner or later it will cause a bad accident.”

But the response Mr Trendell got from the council’s Streetpride department was not what he was expecting.

Streetpride said Worksop Road was not on the 2013/2014 works programme ‘due to the major works on the section of the A57 between M1 and Todwick Cross Roads’.

The only positive news was an assurance that the road would be added to the list of roads for consideration at the next works review meeting, which doesn’t take place until October.

And its not just the A57 that is causing concern. Dinnington Comprehensive School teacher Dana Abdulkarim said the roads were ‘terrible’, adding: “I think my car is going to need servicing and the wheels sorting more often. The roads are terrible. Thurcroft is just as bad.”
