Praise for ELDC over response to dead whales

Praise has been sounded for the way East Lindsey District Council responded to the situation earlier this winter when three dead sperm whales were washed up on Skegness beaches.

Council leader Coun Craig Leyland told a full meeting of the council: “While the episode was incredibly sad, it showed the capabilities of our teams to respond to such situations.

“Over the course of the week, the council’s work was highlighted internationally.

“A number of other council have contacted us for advice in case they are faced with something similar in the future.

“I should like formally to thank our neighbourhoods and communication services for their work in responding to and dealing with this unexpected issue.”

Similar plaudits were sounded by Labour leader Coun Tony Howard, who described the conscientiousness of ELDC’s communications team as “excellent”.

The costs of the whale disposal operation have not been revealed.
