A glittering community awards night raised over £15,000 to be split in two but all to go towards helping those who need it.

The Pride of the Isle committee donated half the proceeds from its ball to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and the rest will be awarded at the discretion of the charity committee, in memory of the late Alexander Strong.

During their visit to Bluebell Wood, committee members received a tour of the facilities.

Chair Leesa Sharpe said after the presentation: “Bluebell Wood is indescribable. It’s such a magical place in it’s own right. The staff go way beyond their call of duty, making sure that all children whether visiting for respite care, end of life care or as siblings of patients, have the best time.

“Visiting Bluebell Wood reminds me why we do what we do. It also puts life into perspective!”
