The MP placed himself on the hotseat and answered pupils’ questions after talking to them about his role both in Westminster and in his home constituency.

An invitation was extended to Mr Percy by Year 5 and 6 teacher Joanna Francis at St Martin’s C of E Primary School in Owston Ferry.

The teacher said: “We had been doing some work in class about the Houses of Parliament and how laws are made, so it occurred to me that it would bring the subject to life for pupils if they could talk to a member of parliament.”

She contacted Mr Percy by email and was delighted to get a positive response.

“Andrew Percy was here with us for well over an hour and he shared a great number of issues that are relevant to everyone. It was all very interesting,” said Ms Francis.

She continued: “Our children asked many questions such as what inspired Mr Percy to get in to politics, how often he travels to London and what is his typical day like as an MP? He was able to tell them about the history of the Houses of Parliament. Since then we have moved on to topics such as the suffragettes. We might start to hold regular politics sessions now.”
