Prince William set to visit RAF Coningsby

The visit of HRH Prince William Honorary Air Commandant of Royal Air Force Coningsby and patron of Battle of Britian Memorial Flight on a previous visit to the station.

His Royal Highness, who is also Honorary Air Commandant of Royal Air Force Coningsby, will also be taking the opportunity to visit the Flight in the 75th anniversary year of the Battle of Britain.

The 29 (R) Squadron was established in 1915 and this year its personnel and families are celebrating its 100th anniversary with a parade

The squadron instructs both new and experienced pilots how to operate the Typhoon aircraft which is based at Coningsby.

A spokesman for the station said: “The Duke of Cambridge’s visit to RAF Coningsby is an opportunity to recognise and commemorate the important history of UK air defence, and to learn more about the interesting present and future work of the air force base.”

The Duke will also attend a lunch in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hangar, where he will meet a selection of personnel who work on the base and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight engineers.

His Royal Highness will then fly as a passenger in one of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s aircrafts, before visiting RAF Coningsby’s Quick Reaction Alert station, which facilitates the launch of armed aircraft at short notice to investigate potential threats to UK airspace.
