Public consulted over police contact points

Almost 17,000 postcard surveys have been issued across the county by Notts Police to generate public feedback on plans to axe front counter services.

Proposals put forward last month outlined its intention to close both Harworth and Carlton police contact points.

Across the county, 18 stations will keep the service, rather than the current 42, and 12 stations will close.

Vice chairman of Notts Police Authority Glynn Gilfoyle said no final decision has yet been made.

“We are relying on the public to help us build a bigger picture. We are keen to find out about their preferred way of communicating with the police and whether they support the proposals, which have been drawn up as part of our savings plans, before making any judgement on the issue,” he said.

Notts Police aims to make savings of 22 per cent by 2015, a reduction of £42.3m to its £200m budget.

The pocket-sized questionnaire is available from local libraries and police stations.

The Police Authority will report back the results of the consultation later in the year before any final decision is made.
