Put on your dancing shoes this weekend

Then you’re in for a treat as Bassetlaw Council will once again be bringing ‘Dance in Town’ to Worksop and Retford town centres on Saturday 14th July. From 10am-4.30pm people will be able to watch all kinds of dance and then have a go themselves.

The performances will take place at the Old Market Square in Worksop and the Market Square in Retford.

The event will form part of the Bassetlaw Games celebrations and will see Olympic inspired performances from participants.

Supported by the Council’s Sports Development Team, the aim is to build on the success of previous events, which saw lots of people get involved on the day and several participating groups attract new members. Portfolio holder for environment and leisure Coun Julie Leigh said: “Whether your style is ‘Strictly’ or ‘So You think You Can Dance’ I’d like to encourage everybody to get involved in Dance in Town.”

“This year it’s bigger and better with much more variety. From Line Dancing to Lion Dancing we are offering residents the chance to put their best foot forward and Dance themselves a little fitter. Or just turn up and be entertained.”

Exercise and physical activity development officer Alex Porter said: “Dance clubs and dance schools from across the district will showcase a variety of dance styles on the streets of Bassetlaw.”

“They’ll also invite the public to join in. We’re trying to capture the spirit of this cultural event by getting people a little bit fitter, while having a whole lot of fun.”
