Quigley eyes top police role

The directly-elected commissioner, who will replace Notts Police Authority, is expected to set the force’s priorities, set the budget and hold the chief constable to account among other responsibilities.

They are also expected to have the power to appoint and dismiss the chief constable.

Councillor Quigley, who lost his Bassetlaw seat in May’s local elections, was elected to represent the Retford West division on Notts County Council in June 2009.

He said: “Police and crime commissioners offer a fantastic opportunity for local people to take control of local policing.”

“I will focus all my efforts on delivering safer streets in Nottingham, and the towns and villages across the county.”

He has been a member of the police authority for the past three years, currently holding the position as joint vice chairman.

He was awarded a MBE for services to Bassetlaw Hospice and the people of Retford in 2004 and in November of this year he will be up against former Labour MP Paddy Tipping for the job.

“At the election on 15th November, people will be able to choose a candidate to lead their police force. As Conservative candidate for police and crime commissioner I will be arguing for a robust, no nonsense approach that makes people feel safe in their homes and the police feel proud of their great work,” he added.
