RAF Coningsby raises Â£700 for brain tumor charity

Money raised after corporal's child diagnosed with brian tumour

Workmates of a Corporal Carl O’Connor from RAF Coningsby have raised £700 for the charity which supported Cpl O’Connor and his family after his two year son was diagnosed with a brain tumour in February 2016.

Little James had to undergo eight and half hours of surgery to completely remove the cancerous tumour, and then started on 56 weeks of intensive chemotherapy at QMC Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

Events to raise money included two weight loss challenges at work, a wallet raffle, and a collection bucket for change, which raised £250 in only eight weeks.

On Thursday March 9 a presentation was held at Battle of Britain Memorial Flight RAF Coningsby where Cpl O’Connor presented a cheque to Tamsin Hancox, representing the charity CLIC Sargent.

Carl said, “My wife and I are extremely grateful to my colleagues for raising this money for James.

“The money has been spent on buying furniture for CLIC Sargent charity house in Nottingham which is called Billy’s House.

“This is a fantastic facility that gives families somewhere to stay if needed while your child is undergoing treatment.”

He added “I would also like to say a thank you to everyone who has helped us at Coningsby; the support we have received as a family has been exceptional.”
