Raider smashed store window

A SMASH and grab raider has been given a night-time curfew for six months, including over Christmas.

Daniel Taylor, 20, took part in a £9,000 raid in Bridge Street, Worksop. He was also given a 10 month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

He admitted being involved in the burglary at the Cash Generator shop in the early hours of 18th June 2012.

Nottingham Crown Court heard CCTV inside the premises caught the electrically-operated metal shutters rolling up and two men breaking in.

The men smashed the window with a piece of paving slab or concrete, making a hole large enough to reach inside. They spent half an hour putting jewellery and electronic items into a plastic sack.

The court heard how the stolen property, which was never recovered, had cost £9,000 to buy. But had a retail value closer to £13,000.

Taylor, of Southbeck Rise, Worksop, was arrested hours later. His fingerprints and blood DNA were found at the scene.

He admitted removing only jewellery items. His barrister Martin Elwick said the other person had taken nearly everything. CCTV pictures were not clear enough to identify the other man.

The court was told Taylor had a prior conviction for stealing bikes from Center Parcs. But Mr Elwick said he was not a sophisticated offender, asking for ‘one last chance’.

Judge John Milmo extended an existing curfew Taylor was on by six months. He must stay at home from 10pm - 7am. He also imposed the suspended prison term.
