Havenhouse, near Wainfleet, had only 158 entries and exits in the time period, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) estimates.

The count puts it fifth in Great Britain, behind: Barry Links, in Angus, Scotland, on 122; Reddish South, in Stockport, on 60; and Stanlow and Thornton, in Cheshire, and Denton, in Greater Manchester, both on 46.

At the top of the table was London Waterloo on more than 94 million.

Havenhouse’s tally is down from 172 on the year before.

That year, the lowest in Lincolnshire was Thorpe Culvert, which is a little closer to Boston on the same line.

However, in 2018-19 the station saw a massive 74.8 per cent surge in use, taking its total from 148 to 258.

Top for Lincolnshire in 2018-19 was Lincoln on 1.9 million.

Boston had 226,940, a 4.2 per cent rise on the previous year, while Skegness had 350,864, which was a drop of 1.8 per cent year-on-year.
