James Smith, 22, of Kingsmead, Retford, who worked as support staff at HMP Ranby turned a blind eye to parcels being picked up by prisoner Luke Carlisle.

Carlisle, 29, had a job in the prison clothing store with Smith who did nothing to stop Carlisle taking the packages, which contained drugs, and distributing them in the prison.

Smith received hundreds of pounds paid into his bank account for his part in the scheme and the pair were arrested on 26th April 2012.

Officers identified a third man, Nelson Neish, who was in Manchester and was the man behind the payments to Smith.

He was arrested by Nottinghamshire officers on 9th October 2012 and found in possession of drugs and significant amounts of cash.

All three men pleaded guilty to conspiring together to supply prohibited articles into HMP Ranby between 20th March 2012 and 18th April 2012.

They appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday 16th August.

Neish, 21, also pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class C drugs.

Smith had previously entered a guilty plea for misconduct in a public office by wilfully neglecting to perform his duty by failing to notify staff at HMP Ranby of parcels containing drugs and prohibited articles coming into the prison and receiving money for doing so.
