Max Ewen contacted us about our previous week’s photo of the Sleaford Town Band from 1968. He tells us that he played cornet in the band but had left before the picture.

He recognised lead cornet player and bandmaster Walter Onyon sitting behind the music stand to the left of the picture, who he described as “a true musical virtuoso” who taught him and other pupils from Sleaford Secondary Modern School to play instruments.

The euphonium player standing second left was Mr Clay. Back row third from the right, in tie and glasses is Mr Moss who played Bb bass.

Mr Ewen said: “I took part in that brass band contest in 1961. It took place in Leicester and we played a piece called Four Little Maids. Our conductor was Mr Gledhill.”
