RECENT NOSTALGIA: Lord Coe visits Boston on countdown to Olympics

A world record-setting athlete visited Boston for what some suspected was a venue scouting mission ahead of the London Olympics.

Sebastian Coe, who won gold medals at two Olympic Games, visited the town’s Princess Royal Sports Arena as part of the country’s drive towards 2012.

As he departed he admitted he had been left with a good impression from his tour.

Lord Coe said: “I thought the sports arena was fantastic, and what I saw in Boston during my visit I found very encouraging.

“All the facilities being put forward for use during the 2012 Olympics are in with a chance of being chosen and will be judged over the next few years.

“We don’t want to get a situation where we are sorting everything out six months before the games take place - we want to start this five years in advance.”
