Recycling changes to Isle bins

Changes made by North Lincolnshire Council now mean food and drink cartons can be placed in burgundy bins.

These can be recycled along with plastic bottles, tubs, trays and cardboard.

Previously residents could only recycle food and drink cartons at Household Recycling Centres.

Other items that can be recycled in burgundy bins include yogurt pots, margarine tubs and ice-cream containers. They all need to be emptied of any food or liquids and rinsed out before being placed.

Coun Nigel Sherwood, cabinet member for highways and neighbourhood said: “We have increased the amount of materials that can now be recycled at home; making it easier for residents to recycle even more. It is important that we reduce the amount that goes to landfill unnecessarily each year. It costs us around £40 more for every tonne of waste that goes to landfill – this is waste that could have been recycled.

“I would like to thank everyone for their recycling efforts. With your continued support we can do even better in 2015 and increase our recycling rates in North Lincolnshire.”
