Recycling project wins top award

Continuum Recycling, ECO Plastics’ ground breaking joint venture with Coca-Cola Enterprises, based at Hemswell near Gainsborough, has been recognised at a prestigious regional awards ceremony.

The Fbe East Midlands Awards 2012, organised by the East Midlands Committee of the Forum for the Built Environment, honour construction projects around the region.

The £15,000 Continuum facility was chosen as the best project in the Lincolnshire Scheme & Team category, beating off stiff competition from Siemens and Beaumont Fee.

ECO Plastics raised £24 million to finance its Continuum joint venture with Coca-Cola Enterprises.

And this award recognised that achievement. It was handed to the project that the judges thought had planned and executed the best acquisition, merger or fundraising during the past 12 months.

Continuum Recycling is considered an important milestone for both the drinks manufacturing and recycling industries.

The purpose built facility reprocesses used plastic bottles and the high quality materials produced are re-used to make new Coca-Cola bottles.

The joint venture has also brought an economic boost and created skilled jobs in rural Lincolnshire, where employment has been in decline for some time.

“It’s great to be recognised as a leader in our region and to know that industry values our project model,” said ECO Plastics managing director Jonathan Short.

“UK sustainable packaging has huge growth potential and we hope Continuum will provide a blueprint for similar projects in this sector.”
