'˜Refused': Narrow vote on traveller site plan for Burgh-le-Marsh

East Lindsey District Council planners met this morning to discuss the controversial plan for next to the Burgh bypass.

County Coun Colin Davie told the Standard ahead of the meeting he would be speaking on behalf of residents.

He said: “They do not want the travellers in Burgh-le-Marsh. I have spoken to residents and they are worried.

“East Lindsey seems determined to put the site there because the gypsies want a site near the coast.

“I will be speaking on the residents’ behalf against the plan.”

The travellers’ site was a hot topic at a police forum in Ingoldmells attended by Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones last night, at which Coun Davie was chairman.

Residents from Burgh were among those in the packed room at the Royal Arthur Centre to speak to Mr Jones about their concerns.

Some went as far as to say they would be unable to sleep if the plan was passed.

One asked if there could be more clarification of the rights of the public in dealing with incidents involving travellers.

He said; “The bad guys know what they need to know. We are not vigilantes but we need to know what we can do.”

Mr Jones said he was looking at various ways the public could help the police and agreed more clarification was needed.
