Reserve given approval for winter bird lagoons

Council officers have approved an application for a new lagoon at Freiston Shore.

The lagoon is set to go on a 17-hectare site belonging to the RSPB.

They want to create the site with islances to encourage breeding of winter birds.

A report from Boston Borough Council officers said that all statutory consultees appeared supportive of the application which would extend the RSPB site.

The officers noted that the area will be of similar character to the rest of the Freiston Shore lagoon 
sites.

They said: “These areas are well-established and provide tourism benefits, whilst enhancing habitats, increasing biodiversity and promoting bird breeding in the area.”

Granting the plans, the officers concluded: “The proposal is to be welcomed and no concerns are raised regarding the scheme.”
