Residents evacuated and rail passengers delayed after gas cyclinder blaze in Mansfield

A blaze at a commercial garage in Mansfield involving gas cylinders forced residents to be evacuated from their homes and caused delays for rail passengers.

Two crews from Ashfield and a back-up team from Derbyshire attended Kings Mill Way to the single storey unit which was “fully involved in fire”, measuring 20x30m, after receiving a call at 6.10pm on Tuesday.

Police put a 200 metre exclusion zone in place and fire chiefs carried out a controlled evacuation of the area.

The blaze involved one acetylene cylinder and two other unknown cylinders.

A stop was put on the Robin Hood Line, causing delays for passengers between Nottingham and Mansfield. A replacement bus service was put on between Nottingham and Worksop.

Two ground monitors and an aerial ladder platform were used during the blaze by fire chiefs.

The stop message was received at 11.57pm.
