Residents' hopes for a swift repair after vandals attack Stickney toilets

Stickney Park toilets have been subject to vandalism.

Members of Stickney Residents’ Association, Stickney Parish Council and Lincolnshire County Councillor Victoria Ayling gathered today (Monday) to assess the damage done during the incident which was reported to police on Friday night.

The damage included sinks pulled off the wall, pipework and a hand-drier also taken off the wall, leaving electrical works exposed.

It is believed the crime could have happened between Wednesday and Friday, February 3 and 5.

Coun Ayling said: “This is an amenity that is important to the community.”

“This is yet another amenity affected by this thoughtless vandalism.”

She said she suspected it was young people who had been involved – however, she also said that the park area provided an area in the village for youths to go to as there was no-where else to go.

The toilets have been closed since the incident, and will now remain so at least until repairs are done. Originally the road was closed at the junction to the A52, but this has since moved down to the entrance of the park area.

Members of Stickney Residents Association and those living close by are now hoping the repairs can be carried out and the toilets reopened as soon as possible.

They say the area is somewhere a number of people, including school trips, visit because of the variety of nature which lives there and feel the loos help when people do walk there.

Jean Littlewood, who is also a parish councillor, agreed with one member who said: “I don’t think it would be too expensive to put right. It’s annoying but it looks like a minor expense.”

She said she hoped the county council would not close the toilets for good.

Chris Miller, countryside services team leader for Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We were forced to close Stickney picnic area last Friday after the toilets were vandalised, leaving them unusable.

“We’re now assessing the damage to see what repairs are needed.”

Lincolnshire Police confirmed they were looking into the incident and asked anyone with any information to call the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident 103 of February 5.
