The neighbour thought Hind was banned so called a friend who confirmed Hind had been disqualified.

The police were told Hind was still driving around without a licence and was invited to the police station to talk about it.

Hind then admitted driving to the police station.

Prosecuting, Mr Carr, said: “This case arises in unusual circumstances.

“ A few years ago Mr Hind was convicted of death my dangerous driving when he was in a car incident and his wife which was a passenger in his car, was killed.”

“One of the conditions of his sentence was that he would surrender his licence, which he did.”

Hind said:“ I am very sorry. I had to get into my car to do some shopping.”

“I have health problems and walking to the shops is too far for me.”

“ It has been tempting to just get into the car.”

Hind also told the magistrates, it would be a good idea for them to disqualify him from driving.

The magistrates disqualified Hind from driving for two years.

He was also fined £160, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
