Retford: Local musicians get advice from Oasis mentor Alan McGee at latest Music In Bassetlaw event

The founder of Creation Records talked about how he made a start in the business and his own personal journey from playing bass in a punk band to starting one of the most successful independent record labels of all time on a mere £1,000 bank loan.
A&R executives Spencer Wells, Matthew Rumbold and Sean Denny also cast their well-tuned ears over demos from Bassetlaw-based bands and solo artists.

Maurice Mulligan, Music In Bassetlaw project officer, said: “It was a fantastic session and being able to host someone of Alan McGee’s experience and calibre was a boost for the project and a great opportunity for those people who attended.
“Alan was very engaging and not only talked the audience through his own career path with Creation Records, and of course Oasis, but also spoke in depth about how he sees the music industry performing at present.”
“The response from our A&R executives was very encouraging and I think everyone got a lot out of the day.”
“There may even be further opportunities for some of our local acts as one of the A&R executives will be keeping a close eye on their progress.”
