Retford man dies after being found injured in Bassetlaw Hospital car park

AN inquest has opened into the death of a Retford man who was found in his car at Bassetlaw Hospital last week.

Police were called to the main entrance car park after Michael Walker, of Mill Bridge Close, was found with serious injuries around 1pm on Friday 27th April.

At the inquest opening on Wednesday, Notts Coroners Court heard how the 47-year-old had deep cuts to his throat and left forearm.

He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner Miss Mairin Casey said Mr Walker had recently been a patient at Bassetlaw Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for mental health problems.

“Mr Walker had a known history of depression and had involved with mental health services for many years,” she said.

Miss Casey adjourned the inquest, pending further reports.

A Notts police spokesman said Mr Walker’s death is not believed to be suspicious.
