The incident occurred just before 10am this morning (Wednesday, 13th August).

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Our officers were called to the East Coast Main Line, south of Retford station, at 9.50am after reports a person had been hit by a train.”

“Colleagues from Nottingham Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“Once we have formally identified the man, we will inform his family.”

“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and we will now assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.”

East Coast Trains, who operate the main East Coast Line to and from London, say services in and out of Retford have been affected all morning with delays of up to 90 minutes on all journeys at times.

Disruptions are likely to continue into the afternoon but the company say all East Coast, Grand Central and First Hull Trains passengers may use each others services.

Local Northern Rail services could also be affected as investigations continue.
